Dick King-Smith was born March 27, 1922, in Bitton, Gloucestershire, England. He worked as a farmer for 20 years before earning a B.Ed from Bristol U. in 1975. The then taught primary school for 7 years, and became a full-time writer in 1982. His books for children have been praised for their warmth, sensitivity, and humor.
